Live webinar: April 21, 2021
1 – 2:30 PM PST
This webinar will discuss the use of hands-free support walkers and demonstrate how these mobility devices can change the lives of children with severe physical limitations, cortical visual impairments, complex communication needs.
Topics will include The Bridge School’s use of hands-free support walkers and share research on the impact of self-initiated mobility on development. Specific information will focus on how staff consider visual behavioral characteristics of CVI and design interventions that use hands-free support walkers to:
• facilitate language and communication,
• encourage the functional use of vision,
• promote interaction, self-determination and learning.
Video case examples will help illustrate intervention strategies, such as how to mount low tech and mid-tech communication devices on walkers and/or in the environment so children with CVI and complex needs can access them. Wheelchair mobility options for children with CVI will also be discussed.
