Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility

The Bridge School is a seasoned partner for companies practicing corporate social responsibility. Currently, we are working with companies such as Salesforce and Cisco Systems to further our education, research and dissemination goals around the world.

The standard of corporate social responsibility has gained a significant amount of traction at companies and organizations across the globe in the last several decades. By promoting and participating in corporate social responsibility activities and behaviors, companies can achieve a favorable perception in the public sphere, enhancing the reputation, credibility, and support from stakeholders.

According to the Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance and Financial Regulation, it is important for members of the board and senior executives instituting corporate social responsibility programs to have a deeper understanding of the key issues related CSR, specifically relating to communication. As a potential CSR partner, The Bridge School is geared to address stakeholder awareness through a variety of channels and materials. The strength of The Bridge School brand as an international leader in AAC special education, as well as the local recognition of The Annual Bridge School Benefit concert, poise the school to become an ideal CSR collaborator.

Sponsor Summer Camp

Building Bridges Camp & Training Institute

Building Bridges Camp is designed to give individuals who use AAC/AT an opportunity to develop their communication skills in a fun, motivating, no-pressure environment. Divided into four groups according to age, campers participate in activities designed to support the development of their AAC and AT skills. Building Bridges Camp is a great opportunity for kids to develop increased independence and abilities.

The camp program is designed to pair adults attending the Training Institute with a camper throughout the week. The Institute is a training program for teachers, speech pathologists, classroom assistants, and others who work with children using AAC/AT in a home or school environment.

The training program focuses on: augmentative communication, assistive technology, and instructional strategies. There is time to work, learn, teach and play in an environment designed to maximize communication. The week-long Training Institute is unique in that it provides: intensive instruction, hands-on experience, instruction on technology applications, small group interaction, applied training activities, and professional networking access to experts in the fields of AAC, ATand Special Education.

Currently, the summer camp is not sponsored and we are looking for the appropriate partner to help us. If you are interested in becoming involved, please contact us and indicate your interest.

International Teacher in Residence

Support International Teachers-in-Residence

The International Teacher-in-Residence grant is a philanthropic award presented bi-annually to a professional from a country where training in the use of assistive technology (AT) and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) is limited.

This program furthers The Bridge School’s mission of disseminating effective teaching and communication strategies to the global community by providing training and promoting skill development to an individual who is committed to disseminating what they have learned during their year-long residency when they return to their home country. We seek candidates who possess the appropriate education and background to serve children in special education settings, or to train teachers/therapists to work in these environments. The specialty training opportunity at The Bridge School enables the individual to return to their country and promote the use of AACfor children/adults who are currently being underserved.

The residency is presented in collaboration with the International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ISAAC). ISAACis an international nonprofit organization made up of professionals, families, manufacturers, researchers and consumers, whose goal is to improve the quality of life for people with complex communication needs through research, education, networking, and information dissemination.

Engage in Planned Giving

Planned Giving

Help us build a legacy by arranging a charitable bequest, a charitable gift annuity, or charitable remainder trust. The Bridge School is happy to accept your preferred vehicle for a planned giving donation, and we kindly ask that you to contact us to get the appropriate materials for your financial and/or philanthropy advisor.

  • Tax Incentives – From a fiscal perspective, the tax incentives are a significant advantage to making a planned giving arrangement. The specific tax savings depend on the desired planned giving vehicle and a range of other factors, so you will need to discuss your options with a financial advisor or estate planner.
  • Naming Opportunities – As we build our Endowment Fund, we are in a unique position to extend naming opportunities to individuals and organizations, depending on the size and impact of the gift. If you interested in learning more about naming opportunities, please contact us and indicate your interest.

Pro Bono Volunteering

Pro Bono Volunteering

Are you in a position to volunteer professional services? We welcome pro bono volunteers in the fields of social media marketing, branding, fundraising, grant writing, non-profit development, corporate social responsibility and disability advocacy.

A pro bono or highly skilled volunteer is an individual who donates his or her professional level services as an “unpaid consultant” to the nonprofit organization. A pro bono volunteer is different from other volunteers in that they may offer specific expertise to The Bridge School on a project basis that includes clear guidelines, deadlines, and deliverables. Pro bono and skilled volunteers may range along a continuum of technical expertise and experience in terms of skills, levels of commitment, and the types of projects they are interested in doing, bringing experience, expertise, and perspective to the organization. They are valuable assets for creating an infrastructure and for affecting change.

In addition to helping The Bridge School with pro bono services, you will be able to deduct certain expenses on your IRS tax returns. Please review current tax policy to assert how you may qualify for expense deductions.

If you are interested in providing pro bono services, please contact us and indicate your interest.

Sponsor a Child

Sponsor a Child

The challenges faced by families of children with disabilities are immense. Occasionally, we encounter situations where great financial need prevents families from seeking the appropriate education for their child. We strive to make fair and equal education accessible to all families regardless of financial need and offer many opportunities to support our economic equality standards.

You can help The Bridge School serve low-income applicants by becoming a scholar sponsor – any amount of money you choose to donate will be designate for use in our scholarship fund.

If you are interested making a donation, please follow the support link and indicate your interest.

Give the Gift of Stock or Annuity

Give the Gift of Stock or Annuity

One of the basics of good financial stewardship is charitable giving. However, generosity is not limited to cash, checks, and credit cards. In fact, it is possible to be savvy in your financial giving through realizing the efficiency of giving stock. By giving investments, you may deduct the full value of the asset on your taxes, and neither you (the donor) nor The Bridge School (the nonprofit) have to pay a capital gains tax typically associated with the sale of appreciated securities.

Appreciated Stock

If you plan to donate $2,000 to charity, you can donate cash and receive your tax deduction immediately. As a mature investor, you may also have some appreciating shares that you want to sell for profit. Imagine you bought them 10 years ago for $1,000, and now they are worth $2,000. If you simply sell the shares, you have a capital gain of $1,000. If you fall into a tax bracket where you pay the 15 percent capital gains tax rate, you will owe $150 in taxes on that gain. That tax bill will partially offset any benefit you received from donating cash to the charity. But what if, instead of donating cash, you donate the stock? You get to claim the entire $2,000 as a deduction on your taxes, but you don’t have to pay any capital gains tax (and neither does The Bridge School).

One of the simplest ways to leave a lasting legacy to benefit our global community is to include specific language in your will or living trust that names The Bridge School as a beneficiary of your estate. Your estate will receive a charitable deduction for the full donation, so your heirs will not pay estate tax on these assets. A charitable bequest may take the form of cash, securities or personal property.

How to give

You can leave a percentage-based, specific, residual, or contingent charitable bequest. To initiate a Bequest application, please leave us a brief message on our online contact form, and your request will be forwarded to our Executive Director, Vicki Casella. A bequest of any amount qualifies you to join The Bridge School Legacy Society, a group of visionary philanthropists dedicated to making a lasting commitment to the future of special education.
